Sensei teve uma vida muito difícil com O'Sensei. Todos conhecemos muitas histórias do temperamento terrível de O'Sensei e quão difícil era ser seu aluno directo. Há muitas histórias surpreendentes do próprio fundador, que poderiam arrepiar até aos ossos, os mais novos na pratica.
Os estudantes que conheceram Morihiro Saito Shihan particularmente por muitos anos, especialmente aqueles que estudaram com ele antes da década de 80 e os que usufruíram dos últimos anos da sua vida (sendo que aqueles antes da década de 80 participaram mais nas aventuras de Sensei e os dos últimos anos da sua vida ouviram todas as histórias ao beber calmamente com Sensei), certamente sabem sobre algumas das preferências privadas de Sensei, em alguns assuntos.
Sensei gostava muito de Zatoichi, por exemplo. Zatoichi é um personagem fictício de uma série de televisão japonesa filme passada durante o período Edo. Foi uma das mais longas séries que correu na altura, cujo carácter era representado por Shintaro Katsu. A versão mais recente também se tornou muito popular com o ator Takeshi Kitano, em 2003.
Por que Sensei amava tanto este personagem?
Além do trabalho fantástica como sabre, que sempre atraiu a atenção do Sensei (Sensei estudava as técnicas realizadas em diferentes filmes de artes marciais e comentava: esta é de Katori Shinto, esta é "Chambara", etc), Sensei realmente via-se na pele do ator, pois a sua vida, em muitos aspectos, lembrava a de Zatoichi.

Zatoichi foi um anma cego (massagista), que também adorava festas, beber, etc.
Mas o aspecto que achamos atraiu Sensei mais a esse personagem, foi o fato de que este herói estar sempre a lutar protegendo os inocentes da opressão das gangues yakuza e também a lutar contra a injustiça onde quer que a encontrasse. Zatoichi era uma pessoa simples (como ele mesmo), com gostos simples, mas abençoado com uma percepção e astúcia daqueles que o cercavam. Ele actuava conforme a necessidade sempre corrigindo o que estava errado e colocando tudo direito.
Nós convidamos vocês a estudar os filmes de Zatoichi (existem muitos no youtube - não colocado por nós, mas para se desfrutarem na mesma) e, ao vê-los, tentem colocar a Sensei no papel de Zatoichi. É realmente muito interessante.
Nós, também, devemos ter a coragem de ser como Sensei e corrigir o que está errado. Erguer uma estátua a este mestre formidável em Iwama, um lugar que ele ajudou a desenvolver, é uma forma de corrigir as coisas.

Sensei lead
a very difficult life with O’Sensei. We
know lots of stories of O’Sensei’s terrible temper and how difficult it was to
be his student. There are many surprising stories of the Founder himself, which
would chill up the new comers to the bone.
The
students who knew Morihiro Saito Shihan privately for many years. especially
those before the 80’s and those in the last years of his life (being that those
before the 80’s participated the most in Sensei’s adventures and those in the
last years of this life heard all the stories from drinking calmly with
Sensei), certainly know about some of Sensei private preferences in some
matters.
Sensei
loved Zatoichi, for example. Zatoichi is a fictional character of a Japanese
television film series set up during the Edo period. It was one of the longest
running series whose character was performed by Shintaro Katsu. A newer version
became also very popular with the actor Takeshi Kitano, in 2003.
Why did
Sensei loved this character so much?
Besides the
fantastic sword work, which always attracted Sensei’s attention (Sensei would
watch the techniques performed in different martial arts movies very closely
and comment: this is Katori Shinto, this is “chambara”, etc.), Sensei actually
saw himself in the skin of the actor, as his life, in many aspects, resembled
that of Zatoichi.
Zatoichi
was a blind anma (masseur) who also loved drinking, partying, etc.
But the
aspect that we think attracted Sensei the most to this character, was the fact
that this hero was always fighting, protecting the innocent from the oppression
of the yakuza gangs and also he fought injustice wherever he went. Zatoichi was
a simple person (like himself), with simple tastes but blessed with a cunning
perception of those around him. He would act upon necessity always correcting
wrong and setting up things right.
We invite
you to study the movies of Zatoichi (there are many in the youtube – not placed
by us, but enjoyed all the same) and when you do please try to place Sensei in
Zatoichi role. It is very interesting indeed.
We, too,
should have the courage to be like Sensei and set up things right. Erecting a
statue to this formidable master in Iwama, a place he helped to develop, is one
